World Book Day Event - third year running!

Stoke Lodge Hotel is delighted to be once again hosting the World Book Day event

This popular event takes place on Saturday 21st April 2018, and will once again be a day filled with an interesting variety of speakers, news, views and comments from local writers and guests.

The day will be 'punctuated' by Morning Coffee, and delicious buffet Lunch in the Garden Restaurant, with a Devon Cream Tea to round off the proceedings.

Lesley Pearse - and Friends..!

The first 2016  event was a huge success, with best selling author Lesley Pearse kicking off the proceedings with a fun and entertaining talk about her writerly path to success.

Other speakers throughout the day included Mel Menzies, Steve Stevenson-Olds, Jenny Kane, Chris Robiallard, Jane Gill, and Tony Porter. Click here for more links and info: https://goo.gl/nyL1Yw

Kate Furnivall, Annette Shaw and Jane Corry

Last year's event in 2017 welcomed authors Jane Corry and Kate Furnivall, who gave us very interesting insights into how and why they started on their successful writing careers.

Then came talks from Victoria Sutor and Jill Treseder on The Reading Agency, while Jill then joined other local authors Julie Archer and Lucy Willetts to talk about their work. Again, info here: https://goo.gl/DJ3KkU

This year welcomes author Philip Reeve, whose book Mortal Engines is now being filmed and produced by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (of the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings Trilogies).

Philip will be giving a talk and a presentation on his life as an author and the Hollywood process, which promises to be very informative and entertaining.

He will be joined by guest speakers Wendy Thorogood and Hilda Kalap who will talk about the work of The Reading Agency, Elizabeth Ducie on Self Publishing, and owner of Manna From Devon Cookery School Holly Jones.

A huge thank you to Devon Life Book Reviewer Annette Shaw, who had the idea to hold the World Book Night Celebration at ‘my favourite hotel’ and who tirelessly organises the event throughout the year to make it the stunning success that it is today!

There will also be book information, recommendations and of course the popular 'Book Share' table, and with an added bonus this year of a free draw to win a selection of Waverley Books paperbacks!
