WORLD BOOK EVENT 2018
Stoke Lodge Hotel from 9.30am - 5.00pm on Saturday 21st April
Enjoy a day of high energy, glamour, news, views, valuable networking, making friends, photo opportunities - not forgetting fabulous food and sharing a love of books!
Stoke Lodge Hotel is again delighted to be hosting this very popular event for the third year running, and if the previous two years are anything to go by, this one should be just as enjoyable, entertaining and inspiring.
The fun starts at 10am with a packed programme, which will include: various speakers throughout the day, a free book exchange and book draw, news from writers and guests, friendly networking with like-minded readers and writers - and much more...
All is nicely punctuated by morning coffee, a fabulous lunch in the Garden Restaurant, and a luscious Devon Cream Tea.
Talks and presentations include:
'From Here to Hollywood' with Philip Reeve.
This year we are excited to welcome author Philip Reeve, whose book Mortal Engines is being produced by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (of the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings Trilogies).
Philip will be talking about his life as an author and the Hollywood process, which promises to be very informative and entertaining.
Work is currently being completed on the film which will be released in December 2018, but you can have a sneaky peek at the Mortal Engines Official Teaser Trailer here:

'A Book For Life' with Wendy Thorogood. RGN/RSC/MSc and 'Volumes of Empathy with Hilda Kalap (www.thehealingspace.global).
Wendy and Hilda will remind us of the work of The Reading Agency (www.readingagency.org.uk), whose mission is:
"We inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to read for pleasure and empowerment. Our aim is to make reading accessible to everyone. Because everything changes when we read..."
'Polished Self Publishing' with author Elizabeth Ducie and Holly Jones from cookery school Manna From Devon.
'Anyone can self-publish' - but how does the reader know what they are buying? What should they look for? A discussion on both sides from two seasoned self-publishers.
News, views and comments from local writers and guests, with book information and recommendations and of course the popular 'Book Share' table - with an added bonus this year of a free draw to win a selection of Waverley Books paperbacks.
